Dr. Lavinia S.J. Kortese is assistant professor in EU law at the Department of International and European Law at Utrecht University. Her main research interest concerns freedom of movement of EU citizens and migration of third-country nationals (notably students and economically active persons) and the issues they face when studying\/working\/living in several EU Member States. Lavinia is particularly interested in what may be described as the law in action, i.e. the connection between research findings to societal developments. In this context, she has a particular interest for issues people face in cross-border regions. She previously completed her doctorate on recognition of qualifications at ITEM & Maastricht University which featured several case studies on issues related to recognition in the Benelux-Germany region and has several years of experience studying cross-border issues. Beyond free movement and recognition of qualifications Lavinia has an interest in broader topics related to both the internal market and education. <\/p>\n\n
