The Benelux Secretariat-General, together with the Institute for Transnational and Euregional cross border cooperation and Mobility (ITEM) of Maastricht University, would like to invite you to a workshop on improving cross-border railway connections.
Underlined last year by a Recommendation from the Benelux Parliament, the importance of this topic cannot be stressed enough. The railway landscape is rapidly changing, with new railway undertakings entering the market, and new EU legislation coming up on data-exchange for ticket booking and selling. ITEM also recently conducted research in this area. The timing therefore is right to take a closer look into this topic through this workshop.
The workshop is divided into two sessions. In the first one, we will take a closer look at the latest initiatives and developments, both at the European, national and regional level. We will hear from the European Commission, national transport ministries and new entrants with respect to their recent policy initiatives in the field. During the second session, multiple best-practices from different regions in the ticketing domain will be explored and discussed.
The workshop will end with a plenary discussion during which we will look into the future, discussing also the role of the Benelux as a ‘testing-laboratory’ within the EU. We will discuss which next steps are necessary to come to better cross-border ticketing, all with the single endgoal in mind: making cross-border railway connections easier for the (future) passenger.
We hereby invite you to participate in this workshop and to already block this date into your agenda!
A detailed program with a registration link will follow soon. A lunch will be provided after the event.
