Cross-border business in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine (EMR), i.e. doing business in the border area between Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, offers many opportunities. But what are the general requirements for starting a business in different countries? And what should I consider as an entrepreneur? And what are the requirements and pitfalls of cross-border business in practice? These kinds of questions and more are addressed in the new brochure “Cross-border self-employment between Belgium, Netherlands and Germany”. The brochure was made possible by ITEM, in collaboration with the ZZP Factory, as part of the Interreg V A project youRegion 2018-2022.
Three countries, three systems, one economic area
The new brochure “Crossing borders as a self-employed professional between Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany” is available in four languages and aims to guide you through the applicable legislation (national, bilateral and European) in situations of cross-border entrepreneurship in the Belgian-German-Dutch border region.
The brochure describes the basic requirements for starting a business in each individual country of establishment, i.e., registration requirements, professional qualifications, licensing, and social security and tax conditions. Further, it provides guidance on the various options and transboundary impacts to be considered.
A well-known problem that arises among other (highly) mobile workers in the arts and culture sector. How complicated this is became clear during the expert session on 17 February 2022. It was also emphasized there that all services involved in cross-border information and guidance of the cultural sector in the Euregion would benefit from more cooperation in this area.
