Analysis International Rail – Municipality of Amsterdam

This research was commissioned by the municipality of Amsterdam. The direct reason for this exploration is the strategic positioning of the city within the complex European and national international rail dossier. The report extensively analyzes the current status, policy developments, barriers, and opportunities for both international passenger and freight transport by rail. Key themes include the shift from short-haul flights to trains, technical harmonization (such as ERTMS), consumer-friendly ticketing systems, and connection to the European TEN-T corridors. Finally, the exploration offers concrete recommendations for effective lobbying strategies and collaborations at the regional, national, and European levels to strengthen Amsterdam’s international accessibility and sustainability goals.
