The Institute for Transnational and Euregional cross border cooperation and Mobility / ITEM (hereafter referred to as ITEM or the ITEM Expertise Centre) will do its utmost to respect and guarantee your privacy. In this privacy statement you can read how your personal data is used and processed. If you submit a case for analysis to the ITEM Expertise Centre, you agree with the terms of this privacy statement.
Maastricht University, to which the ITEM Expertise Centre belongs, is the legal entity responsible for the processing of your personal data in the sense of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Below you can read which personal data we process, what we use them for, in which legal framework and what you can do if you have further questions.
Processing of personal data and objectives
In the context of our service regarding casuistry, ITEM will be processing personal data, including that of cases submitted. This data will be used for the following purposes:
- to (re)solve the issue or case you have submitted;
- to keep your user account active;
- to solve cases that are related to your case in the future;
- as a basis for further service provision by ITEM. (E.g. your case could be used (in anonymised form) as an example in communications with government authorities).
In the context of registration for and participation in events, your personal data will be used for the organization of the event.
If you consent to be included on our mailing list, you consent to regularly receive ITEM newsletters, invitations for events and mailings concerning current affairs regarding cross border issues. The personal data you provide to this end will be used solely for this purpose.
All data can be used as a basis for user statistics.
We will not provide or disclose your personal data to third parties, unless required by law.
ITEM only keeps the data for the time necessary to fulfil the purpose of collection or further processing.
User rights
As regards your personal data, you have the right to access, rectification and erasure. You have the right to restrict, or object to, the processing of your data. You have the right to receive information on how your information is being processed and to receive that information in a portable format.
Third party access
For the processing of personal data, ITEM can make use of third party service providers (such as hosting or platform providers). These service providers have signed a confidentiality agreement. Beyond this, ITEM will not share your data to third parties, unless obligated by law. The personal data you fill in will be treated confidentially.
In the context of the ITEM Cross-border Portal your case may be published in an anonymised version on the website in order to further develop the portal as an information resource for cross-border cooperation and mobility. This anonymised version will not contain any personal data.

ITEM reserves the right to change this Privacy statement without prior notice. The most recent version can always be found on this page.
